Excellent resource for any radiology resident.

This book is an amazing resource for any radiology resident at any level in my opinion. It's very helpful for getting the key points down for a subject when you're just starting learn about something and also when you're reviewing for the core. I have spoken to other radiology residents who agree with this statement. It breaks things down super simple and the author is pretty funny at times actually.

Overall a great resource for the money. I highly recommend you get this book soon in your radiology training as is will really help solidify key concepts quickly.

First mission accomplished. So what next?

I'm giving this 4 stars because it actually made dust off the R3 I got as a gift 3 years ago and give it a chance simply because I had nothing to do and the book looked promising. I am not giving it 5 stars because there is only one tutorial which covers how to make a program to make an LCD light up. Wish there were more tutorials. The rest of the book is for the uninitiated newbies. I've had my time with it but I just couldn't find some solid uses. Now that I learned a few things though, I'm willing to give the board another chance.

About the Author
Jonathan Nelson always knew something was wrong inside, but it wasn't until the spring of 2008 that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Despite addictions, financial and familial struggles, and severe depression, he enjoys a successful career as an elementary school physical education teacher and high school basketball coach at a small school in Iowa. He has a B.S. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master's Degree in Education. He and his wife, Alicia, have three daughters.

Well written

For a first book, this was very well written especially for such a deeply personal and difficult topic. Mr. Nelson pulls no punches in telling his life story, living Christian with bi-polar disorder. This book will be a great source of comfort to those suffering from this and other related disorders, and their friends and families. Kudos, and prayers, for Mr. Nelson and his family!

This was a good book to read as a family member with a loved one with bipolar. It helps you realize they are not alone or the family as we all help and pray together. It is an easy book to read and kids can read it also to help them understand what people with bipolar live with everyday.

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing Ray Horak’s book, Telecommunications and Data Communications Handbook. The book’s 791 pages, divided into 15 chapters, cover everything from legacy technology such as basic telephone switching to leading edge technologies such as DWDM optical networks, 3G wireless networks, and IPTV converged video. I have read other Horak books in the past, but this one is the most comprehensive one that he has done to date.
The book appears to be best suited as either a text book for a telecommunications class or a reference book. Using Texas terminology, the book is a mile wide but not very deep. You would be hard pressed to find a topic that was not discussed in the almost 800 pages of the book, but most topics are covered in less than one page. It is an encyclopedic work, not the reference that you would use if you needed a comprehensive understanding of any specific technology. On the other hand, if one of your peers brings up a new technology during the course of a conversation (for example MMS), and you want to know what he or she is talking about to avoid appearing uninformed, this book could prove to be invaluable. In other words, it doesn’t paint the whole picture in high resolution, but it provides a lot more than a snapshot.
A few of the topics that I found of the most interest included the sections on Broadband over Power Line (BPL), HiperLAN, VDSL, IEEE 802.16 WiMAX and IPTV. There are a few topics that I would like to have seen covered that were not, but this leaves open the opportunity for the next edition.
Overall, I found the book to be a well written wealth of knowledge. I plan to use it as the text for my undergraduate course in telecommunications in the spring.

A professional "Must Have"

I have been a telecom professional for more than 30 years and I never thought any single reference book could surpass "Newton's Telecom Dictionary" for simplicity, accuracy and value.
But Ray Horak's "Telecommunications and Data Communications Handbook" doesn't just exceed expectations; it raises the bar for any other authors who might consider entering the telecom reference book arena. This book has become the new "Bible" on my reference shelf. Mr. Horak obviously posesses an encyclopedic knowledge of the technology and general industry. He is able to express what he knows in terms that will be understood by the novice as well as the seasoned professional.
This book is a "must have" for anyone working in the telecom / IT industry. Add it to your Christmas wish list today. Or, skip the next telecom conference that you hoped to attend and just buy this book instead. You'll get more lasting value from the book.

Outstanding Choice

I've been on the data side of data/voice my whole career, but with the convergence of both into a single network approach, I found I needed to get more in-depth background on the telecomm side. I searched amazon.com thoroughly and finally found this book. I didn't know what to think when I ordered it--whether it would meet my needs or not--because there just wasn't enough info to be had in the description. But be that as it may, this book has met and exceeded whatever expectations I then had.

It's written in a straightforward manner. And although the author makes attempts at humor, he's not altogether good at it. But regardless, his writing style presents a virtually seamless effort in combining intricate detail within simple and succinct writing. So far, I haven't been left behind intellectually; but likewise, it hasn't left me feeling like he's dumbed it down to a fifth-grade level either. Yes, I have an extensive background in data, and that helps me. But the good news is that my old knowledge is now being augmented with more in-depth understanding about everything telecomm. And that's exactly what I was hoping for.

Obviously, the book does delve into the data side--it has to. But the overall picture I'm left with on both sides is now much more robust; much broader and more complete. This nugget was just what I needed.

Note that the typeface is fairly small and there are 730 pages, not including appendices. The information is organized very well in the 1.1.1.1-style format. There's an excellent index I've already used to my advantage, and an extensive list of acronyms and abbreviations that helps out a lot. There are a few minor editing mistakes, but not nearly enough to distract the conscientous reader.

I wish all technical materials were this well done. Overall an outstanding choice for those who want a deeper understanding of the telecommunications world.

Better than the Internet!

Telecommunications and Data Communications Handbook contains fifteen chapters and covers a wide variety of topics. The book can be recommended for different audiences, starting from students, which decided to become Electrical Engineers, as well as for engineers and managers, and technicians who need always to have a reliable source of information. It is a timely encyclopedic work and will remain so for many years! It also is a perfect companion to Horak's other excellent work, Webster's New World Telecom Dictionary, also published by Wiley in 2007.

Horak is an independent telecom consultant. He is active in litigation support as a consulting expert and testifying expert, often in cases involving intellectual property such as patent, copyright, and trademark and service infringement. He has authored five telecom books and written of hundreds of technical articles, white papers, case studies, and solution briefs.

George S. Cuhaj has served the Krause Publications numismatic staff for 20 years. Before becoming an editor with the Standard Catalog of World Coin series he worked for the American Numismatic Society and as a cataloger for Stack's Rare Coins, both of New York City. Cuhaj is past president of the American Medallic Sculpture Association and his art medal creations have been show internationally.

Thomas Michael has served as a market analyst for 25 years at Krause Publications, which holds a reputation for creating the world's best-selling coin books. Michael holds a bachelor's of arts degree in history and a mast of arts degree in economics.

If you have 2015 edition (or 2014!) just don't waste your money

I had a bad premonition when I opened the volume. On the first page of the catalogue the only change is a larger map of Afghanistan. Everything else is the same. Not a trace of new circulating magnetic 10 leke (2009) and 20 leke (2012) coins even though 2012 commemoratives have been added. Algeria? Commemorative 200 dinars 2012 missing. Andorra? Up to 2013, not a trace of 2014 euro issue. Aruba? No 2014 new circulating coins with the new king. Azerbaijan listing includes all coins issued up to 2006. Brazil starts with a gold 10 reis (actually, it should be reais), lower denominations follow. Guatemala misses some 2010 coins. Kazakhstan ends in 2011. Lithuania does not include 25 litu denomination. Norway ends in 2012. Pakistan 25 paisa is actuallly 25 rupees. As if to balance missing coins the editors generously threw in some coins not heard of anywhere else such as Morocco 5 santimat 2011 or Morocco 25 centimes (???) 2002. Some coins are listed twice e.g. Iran #1276 (or #1278) and 1277 (or #1279). Some prices are out of touch with reality (Monaco 2 euro #195 2011 and #200 2013 are available at 10% of current Krause prices, not a surprise as the mintages exceed one milion of each). I won't bore you with further examples but it seems to me that there is something wrong in the listings of every country.
Some years ago I realised that Krause is in trouble when the 20th century edition I bought was printed without several chapters (including such a minor country as Spain...) which I later received by e-mail. It has only gotten worse. This catalogue is simply not ready for publication, information which can be easily obtained on the Internet is missing. The information can probably be also obtained directly from mints or banks - why wasn't it? Wasn't there enough people in the publishing house to write the necessary e-mails? I can't tell.
What I can do is this: give you a piece of advice. If you already have 2014 or 2015 edition, don't bother buying the 2016 one. It is not worth the price. However, if you collect world coins and you haven't got a catalogue yet, there is no better one on the market. I am very sad to admit it - with Krause lowering its standards the world have just gotten a little worse. My advice to the editors is this - don't publish another edition until you are certain you are ready!

Good night , the catalog really has many flaws in the press there are parts that are not read , they are stained the page , the prices of currencies do not match the columns where they should go , you have blank pages in order is defective this issue, really I've never done them a claim but this time I think I should refund my money to my credit card , catalog price plus freight to pay for it to arrive faster, or in the worst case reintegr�rmelo with a gift card to buy another article in this decision is you . regards2016 Standard Catalog of World Coins 2001-Date

Excellent resource

I am amazed that this book lists for over $70 new, but it is worth every penny for a new or experienced army medic. The book delineates combat duties from garrison duties in a logical way. The book discusses everything from TC3 to sick call procedures. I would highly recommend this book. As an army combat medical instructor, I am looking forward to teaching from this resource.

Fantastic Resource on Tactical Combat Casualty Care

This is a great resource for anyone interested in trauma care in hostile conditions. It was obviously written for military medics, but it is also an excellent reference for cops, concealed carry holders and anyone who might go into harms way. I purchased this book as part of my research on adapting care under fire tactics for law enforcement, and was very happy to have bought it.

68W goes into a lot more detail than just care under fire (garrison care, etc.) But the information on care under fire is worth the price of this book alone.

Medical terminology is used, but is clearly explained. I do not have a medical background, but I was able to easily read and understand everything in this book. Photos and illustrations are excellent.

Good book. Great for reviewing the information given at Medic School and goes a little bit more in depth. The only thing I did not like about the book, is that they did not have any 68W's review it and you can tell because they put most of the emphasis on Airway which is correct for the Garrison/ EMT part of 68W but for the actual Combat Medic part of our job. We all know that bleeding is the focus. Other then that it is a good refrence and study guide.

Keep your belongings close.

Great book, I was reading through it and I found out some very interesting things about the human body... But it wasn't for long because right after class I forgot it under my seat, when doing practice CPR demonstrations. I came back to look for it and it was gone someone from my class or class after me stole my book.
